Wealth management and professional services group, Evelyn Partners, are recruiting more accountancy trainees at their Cambridge office this year.
As part of the professional services team’s expansion in the city, four new trainees will join before September, together with six more school leavers or graduates.
The news comes a year on from Evelyn Partners’ acquisition of Ashcroft Partnership in April 2023 consolidating the presence of their professional services business in Cambridge.
The 43-strong team, based on Trumpington High Street, offers assurance, corporate finance, business and personal tax services.
Stephen Drew, Regional Managing Partner at Evelyn Partners, explained, “In the past, the Cambridge office would typically recruit one or two accountancy trainees per year.
“But a year on from acquisition of Ashcroft Partnership, the increased investment in new career recruitment reflects the potential and ambition Evelyn Partners have for the region.
“The new trainees will join our current cohort of seven who are at various stages of qualifying, more than doubling our local trainee community.
“In addition to taking on an increased number of trainees in 2024, we have also invested in senior talent with several significant hires from Big Four firms.
“As a firm, we attract some of the most talented and dedicated students and graduates in the country. Our trainees consistently achieve some the highest professional exams results and are regular recipients of prestigious Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) awards.”
Working on real projects with real responsibilities, each trainee is provided a personal support network, including a buddy to offer first-hand experience.
Private Client Tax trainee, Alex Lam, joined Evelyn Partners in October 2023 after achieving a 1st Class Honours degree in Accounting and Finance and a Masters in Banking and Finance from the University of East Anglia.
He reflected, “From the moment I joined the Cambridge Office, everyone has been incredibly warm and welcoming.
“As is the nature of working in personal tax, January was a demanding period. Thankfully with the support and guidance of my team not only was I able to make meaningful contributions towards the portfolio but I also learnt a lot with regards to our clients and professional services.
It has also been reassuring to see that career progression is highly valued at Evelyn Partners, which is especially important for graduates or individuals in the early stages of their career.”
