Norfolk-based Mattressman celebrated the opening of its new Thetford store with the return of its much-loved mascot.
Thetford is the latest addition to Mattressman’s growing network of nine stores, creating new jobs and strengthening the company’s presence across East Anglia, where it was founded by Norfolk entrepreneur Andrew Kerry in 2004.
The company’s Mattressman, known across the region for his catchy TV and radio adverts, is making a modern-day comeback with a social-first focus, giving customers a fun way to connect with his playful personality.
“As a Norfolk business, we’re incredibly proud of our roots,” Andrew said.
“Bringing back our mascot and opening the new Thetford store shows how invested we are in our local community.
“We’re creating jobs here, and we want to continue being the local company that people trust – but we also have big ambitions for further national growth and expansion. It’s a real Norfolk success story.”
Mattressman gave its brand a fresh new look in 2024, and its mascot’s return marks the next step in its marketing strategy.
“It’s a case of doing what we’ve always done best: standing out in a competitive marketplace,” adds Jodie Huggins, Head of Brand at Mattressman.
“People remember Mattressman. Whether they saw him on TV or met him at local events, they built a real emotional connection with him.
“Today, people want brands that are relatable and can have a bit of fun – and our new cute and cuddly Mattressman perfectly captures that.”
Thetford will be one of three new Mattressman stores, with two more opening in London early next year.
As part of the company’s continued growth, Andrew has also welcomed Mark Wootton as new company CEO, supporting Mattressman’s expansion plans.
Founded in 2004, Mattressman is Britain’s largest online mattress specialist, stocking over 8,000 mattresses, bed frames, and bedding accessories from brands including Silentnight, Arthur, Sealy, Tempur, and Vispring.
With more than 100 employees and a growing network of stores nationwide, the company was named Retail Champion of the Year 2025 by the National Bed Federation.
It is also committed to sustainability, achieving zero landfill status since 2016 through responsible recycling and waste management.
