27 Years with firm thanks to flexible working

Becky Ames,    Partner, Larking Gowen Chartered Accountants & Business Advisors

Larking Gowen Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors values centre around commitment – to our clients and to our own people. These core values drive everything we do and are why I am so proud to have been at the firm for 27 years. As a partner, I can influence the direction of the business, making sure we constantly review how we support our people, and the services we provide to our valued clients.

The profession has changed significantly since I joined. The developments in digital software solutions mean that much of the number-crunching is now automated, we have real time data and we are able to spend more time with our clients using that information to focus on helping them achieve their goals.

Larking Gowen promotes flexibility as a key employee benefit, and that flexibility has allowed me to progress my career at a rate that worked for me and my family. Part-time does not mean standing still in your career, and throughout the 10 years that I varied my hours, I continued to develop my skills, despite never having a proper plan! Today, I would advocate everyone having a plan. Understanding where you want to get to, and how you will do it are key issues we discuss with our clients. The numbers give us the information to make better informed decisions, but sitting with someone to understand what we can do with that information is why we do what we do. We are far from boring accountants! We are people focused and that’s why I am so passionate about what we do at Larking Gowen.
