Norfolk-based garden designers Stark Strand Garden Design are creating an immersive, Norfolk-inspired feature garden at RHS Sandringham Flower Show, taking place between 22–26 July 2026 at the Sandringham Estate.

Their richly textured space explores how gardens can be shaped by their surroundings, combining locally sourced materials, traditional craftsmanship and planting inspired by the Norfolk landscape.

Rooted in Norfolk’s unique character, the ‘RHS Crafted from Nature Garden’ reinterprets traditional skills through a contemporary lens.

Norfolk water reed — an iconic material of the Broads and traditionally used for thatching — has been transformed by local master thatcher Nick Walker into a tactile sculptural wall. Stacked reed bundles create natural screening and provide valuable insect habitat.

Rusted steel features reference Norfolk’s agricultural heritage, while at the heart of the garden sits a hand-carved sculpture and two York stone benches created by Norfolk master stone carver Teucer Wilson. The carvings are inspired by the elegant forms of reed beds found across the county’s waterways and marshlands.

The garden is being brought to life by Norfolk-based landscapers Norfolk County Landscapes, whose skilled team is constructing the garden with a focus on craftsmanship, precision and sensitivity to the materials at the heart of the design.

Designers Laura Strand and Sam Stark-Kemp aim to demonstrate that considered and sustainable gardens can be created by looking closer to home, by using local materials, traditional skills and meadow-inspired planting.

Their Stark Strand Garden Design studio was previously awarded a Gold medal and Best City Pocket Garden at RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival 2025.

“Norfolk has such a rich landscape and heritage of craftsmanship. We wanted to create a garden that celebrates the materials, makers and traditions that are rooted in this place,” say Laura and Sam.
