Lorna Smart, Freelance Editor, Proofreader & Copywriter, Lorna Smart Wordcrafte
I started Lorna Smart Wordcrafter in June 2021 after the pandemic forced me to reconsider my future. My primary services are editing, copywriting and proofreading. I also provide ghostwriting and content writing services. I‘ve always enjoyed writing and helping people. Freelancing has allowed me to do both.
One was an author whose local history book I edited and proofread in 2022. He’d returned to it after a gap of a few years. We were both delighted when it was published in 2023.
Since July 2022, I’ve been involved in helping Kelp Social, an animal welfare organisation, develop its social platform through the carefully crafted, well-researched, educational, and entertaining blog posts I provide for them. My work with them is on hold while a new platform is being developed.
I have edited two books for the RSGB (Radio Society of Great Britain). These were updated of existing books. Computers in Amateur Radio was published in 2022 and The Antenna Notebook was published in March 2024.The work involved in updating both went beyond the scope of a traditional editing role, and they were a steep learning curve but a great way to learn.
The feedback I’ve received from my clients is a reward in themselves for my leap of faith. Below are excerpts from a couple of them.
“Lorna is fast, efficient, friendly and approachable.” This was from one of my proofreading clients.
“She is a wonder at her craft and I have nothing but praise for professional work and would recommend her to anyone looking for a wordcrafter.” This was from one of my ghostwriting clients.
It certainly has had its ups and downs, but wherever the future brings for me and my business, my experiences will stand me in good stead for what I do in the future.
